Tutorful is an online tutoring platform based in Sheffield connecting private tutors with students across subjects including maths, English and piano, for both school-age and university-level learning. A minority of reviewers, including tutors new to the platform, describe a supportive sign-up process and helpful staff such as Evie. However, a substantial and recurring pattern of reviews describes frustration with the platform itself: a rising commission taken from tutors' fees, cited by reviewers as reaching around a third of every lesson, cancellation and no-show charges applied without warning, double debits taken from bank accounts, and no phone line, with emails said to take days to answer. I have used Tutorful’s services in the past and have always found the platform to be trustworthy, professional, and supportive. On the rare occasions when I have had concerns, they have always been handled fairly and professionally, which I truly appreciate.
Beware the corporate juggernaut that is Tutorful. Be prepared for tutors, parents & students to be sucked under the dirty wheels of their progress. They should be involved in shifting sports equipment, from this sizeable artic in motion, as they continually move the goalposts to make things harder for those who put the company where it is...the tutors. Increasing their take from the 20 pecentile to one-third (of every lesson) without consultation. Insisting that the vetted tutors are not able to do 1:1 in the students home but in a poor internet class room. Taking your profile off their system until you agree to the chinese burn of the new terms & conditions. Deleting their phone lines, so no complaints can be logged effectively; they take days to respond to emails. Pretending to new clients that you have repeat students galore, when there are none because of all the above & so on. If you are a teacher/ tutor reading this, my advise is contact schools or find new students on social media. Could the last teacher of the evacuation, please turn off the lights.
I have had a very positive experience with Tutorful’s support team. As a new tutor on the platform, I had several questions while getting started, and the team were helpful, responsive, and reassuring. They explained things clearly and made the process much easier for me. I appreciate their professionalism and support, and I am pleased to be part of the Tutorful community.
I cant put 0 stars . They dont have a number to call on and have double debited my account. What a nightmare trying to resolve this . Do not put your banking details in their system !
Tryed to book a lesson online, difficult to contact teacher (piano) confusing messages from tutorful, resulting in them charging and taking a cancellation fee for a tutor I've never had a lesson with! They are virtually impossible to contact in person, thier web chat doesn't work either! steer clear, only answer email when it suits them! I note a large number of one star reviews, this is a red flag I wish I had spotted earlier! I will say however in response to this review, they have acted and refunded the money.
Poor interface, wasted money on an hour spent trying to use application. Learned was not helped by tutor, who didn’t know how to work it either. Avoid this business.
