What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

A library building on Cobbett Road in Southampton houses this branch of First Class Learning, where sessions cover maths and English for primary and secondary pupils. Several parents mention SATs preparation for Year 6 children and GCSE maths support for older students, including one who was home educated and sat the exam as an external candidate.

An idea that comes up repeatedly is the planning behind each session: tutors are said to assess a child's level before setting work rather than handing out generic worksheets, and to adjust the pace once a pupil is ready for harder material. Reviewers repeatedly praise the communication from the manager, Herjit, who is described as quick to respond to questions and to keep parents informed between sessions. A structured homework routine comes up often, with parents noting that regular set work becomes part of a child's weekly rhythm.

Confidence is mentioned frequently too, with several describing children who once found a subject stressful coming to look forward to their weekly visit. Classes run on Tuesday afternoons and Saturday mornings, with the centre closed the rest of the week. The setting is described as calm and friendly, suited to small-group learning rather than a large classroom, and parents mention the cost as reasonable for the level of individual attention given.

Wonderful year of support. The teachers are patient and supportive. Motivated our son in English leading up to and throughout the SAT’s, the work was focused and consistent, with feedback provided. A lovely group setting with a great network of teachers.

My daughter went to First Class Learning every Saturday for about a year, mainly for her SETS exam preparation, and it was honestly a big help. They understood her level well and gave us really useful advice about what she should work on and how much study was right for her. I liked that it didn’t feel like they were just giving out worksheets. They actually guided us properly. When we wanted her to try more advanced work, they were happy to listen and adjusted things for her. That made a big difference. She became more confident with her learning, and we’re really happy we chose First Class Learning. I’d definitely recommend them to other parents.

It’s been a year since our daughter finished her GCSEs, and I’ve been meaning to share how much First Class Learning helped her. She achieved results well above her predicted grades, and I credit so much of that to the patient and supportive environment there. They gave her the specific focus she needed to tackle her exams with confidence.

This institute has been amazing for our child’s growth in Maths and English. The teachers are patient, skilled, and give personalized attention, which has boosted confidence and performance. Our child now enjoys learning and has shown remarkable improvement in both subjects. The teachers are not only highly knowledgeable but also patient and encouraging, creating an environment where learning feels exciting rather than stressful. They understand each student’s strengths and areas for improvement, tailoring their approach to bring out the best in every child. Highly recommended to any parent looking for quality education and dedicated support.

It hasn’t been a long time my son has joined the first class learning and already feel more confident in doing maths. Also having everyday homework helps a lot in their progress and gives them a routine. So far so happy. Herjit the manager, is lovely and she back to you as soon as sending a request. The only thing that I would recommend is if they could provide some reports to parents about child’s highs and lows at what they are doing. Thanks a lot.
