Kumon Maths & English

We have seen a really positive change in our son since starting Kumon with Jan. He initially found some of the material challenging and was falling behind, but the daily routine has helped him become much more organised and independent. He now solves maths problems more quickly and confidently, understands grammar well, and is learning new English vocabulary every day. We have seen a big overall improvement in both his skills and confidence. Most importantly, he genuinely enjoys the process now. We are very grateful to Jan for his patience, encouragement and support.

Update in 2026 We couldn’t be happier with the experience our two sons, George and David, have had at Kumon Maths and English in Portchester. Since starting the programme, we have seen remarkable progress not only in their maths and English skills but also in their confidence, independence, and attitude towards learning. Mrs Jane Snell is an outstanding instructor. Same is her team. She is incredibly dedicated, supportive, and attentive to every child’s needs. Mrs Snell has a wonderful way of encouraging children to challenge themselves while making them feel supported and motivated. Her patience, guidance, and genuine care for the students truly set this centre apart. The Kumon method itself has been fantastic for developing strong academic foundations and building consistent study habits. George and David have both become much more confident learners, and it is wonderful to see them approach their work with greater independence and self-discipline. The whole team at the centre is welcoming, organised, and very supportive. Communication with parents is excellent, and it is clear that the children’s progress and wellbeing are always the priority. After almost 3 years, we continue to see steady improvement, and we are extremely grateful to Jane Snell and the entire Kumon Portchester team for their dedication and encouragement. We would highly recommend this Kumon centre to any parent who wants to help their child build confidence, strong academic skills, and a lifelong love of learning. 2025 We’re so pleased with the incredible progress George has made since starting with Kumon. When he first joined, he was right at the very beginning of his learning journey, but with Mrs Jane Snell’s guidance and encouragement, he has made massive strides forward. George now enjoys doing both maths and English on a daily basis, which is a huge change from when he started. His recent success in the level 4A maths exam – scoring 70 out of 70 in just 12.4 minutes – is a real testament to how far he’s come. My son Shane has been attending Kumon since February 2025 and we’ve seen noticeable improvements in both his maths and reading skills. The structured, self-learning approach has helped him become more independent and confident when tackling new problems. The instructors Janet & her colleagues are very patient and supportive, always encouraging Shane to do his best without rushing him. I also appreciate how they tailor the pace to his ability level, allowing him to gradually build his skills. One of the highlights has been how consistent practice through daily worksheets has developed his discipline and focus. My 8 year old daughter lacked confidence in Maths and was not on track at school at the start of the year but she has been doing Kumon now for a few months and her confidence has grown , she is making links in everyday day life ( adding up her pocket money, knowing how much change she will have when buying things ) and we have just had parents evening and she is now on track in Maths at school ! We are so impressed with the improvement she has made in a small space of time! Highly recommend for any child who lacks confidence and needs an extra boost. It is little and often only takes my daughter 10minutes a day so not overwhelming and always tailored to her ability!
