About the company

Caledonia Tutors is a tuition provider based in Scotland that operates UK-wide. Tutors are selected through an interview, qualification checks and PVG safeguarding. The organisation has over 200 active tutors and has tutored over 2500 students, delivering over 80,000 lessons. It reports a 94% pass rate. There is no long-term contract, and most lessons are booked in 1-hour blocks. Caledonia Tutors offers small group lessons (typically 2-3 students) for English, Maths and the Sciences.

It supports subjects including Maths, English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and more, primarily at National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher level, as well as GCSE, A-Level, HNC/HND, University and more. Tutors studied through the Scottish system themselves and are familiar with SQA course structure and assessment expectations. Tutors are thoroughly tested on SQA curriculum knowledge during their interview. Online lessons take place using Microsoft Teams alongside collaborative whiteboard software called Miro. Lessons are invoiced monthly.

Payment is made via Online Payments using payment provider Crezco, or alternatively via BACS. Among students who have worked with Caledonia Tutors for an average of 29 teaching weeks, the proportion achieving A or B grades increases from 36% to 80%, and around 96% achieve a passing grade. Tutors are high-achieving university undergraduates and graduates with outstanding academic records. Most tutors achieved straight A grades at school and are currently achieving 1st class degrees in their subject.

What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

A wide subject range distinguishes this Grassmarket-based tutoring service, with reviews mentioning English, Spanish, maths, physics, chemistry and history across National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher levels. Individual tutors are named frequently and consistently praised for similar qualities: Georgia and Elsie for English and languages, Katie and Kiera for maths, Mary for science, Kayleigh for physics, Harriet for chemistry, and Andrea for history support that helped one pupil move from a predicted low grade to a top result at Advanced Higher.

One consistent note across subjects is regular contact with parents, with tutors described as keeping families updated on homework set and areas still to focus on rather than leaving progress unclear between sessions. Several reviews describe pupils arriving with low confidence in a specific subject and becoming noticeably more willing to attempt difficult questions after a run of weekly lessons, in some cases moving from failing grades to passes within a single academic year.

Families who have used the service across several years and multiple children describe a consistent standard from one tutor to the next, suggesting the matching process pairs pupils with tutors suited to their particular subject and level. The centre is open daily, including weekends, from early morning into the evening.

Absolutely recommend. Our son did prelims with C grade (English is his second language), we arranged lessons twice a week, with wonderful tutor Michael and three months later got B for the Nat5. Arranging lessons also was very fast, easy process, very welcoming team. Thanks a lot.

Exceptional support for Higher Spanish! We are so pleased with the tutoring our daughter received from Elsie for her Higher Spanish exam. Elsie is not only incredibly knowledgeable, but she was also brilliant at adapting her teaching to suit my daughter’s specific learning style. She made every session engaging and enjoyable, which really helped build my daughter's confidence. Beyond the academics, Elsie was incredibly caring; she messaged after the exam to see how it went and checked in again on results day. She was always reliable, and nothing was ever too much trouble. We also had a fantastic experience with Caledonian Tutors as an agency. They are reliable, responsive, transparent, and a real pleasure to deal with. We are delighted with the grade our daughter achieved, and we will definitely be using them again. Highly recommended!

I really can not recommend enough Andrea for tutoring! When we started my daughter was failing in history due to ill health and missing a lot of school at that stage her expected result was a D! Andrea helped her so much breaking the subject down and helping her understand it she really obviously did do a fantastic job because she got an A in advanced higher history and has been accepted to university. Andrea you are amazing and thank you so much for everything!!!

I’ve been really impressed with the tutoring support provided by Caledonia Tutors across multiple subjects, particularly English, which has never been my child’s favourite. The tutors have made the subject feel far more approachable and enjoyable. Their encouragement, clear explanations, and consistent support have genuinely boosted confidence and made a real difference. A special shout‑out to the English tutor, Georgia, whose patience, clarity, and ability to make English feel accessible have been outstanding. Her lessons have been consistently engaging and supportive. I also really appreciate how thoughtfully Caledonia Tutors matches students with tutors, not just academically, but based on personality and learning style too. It’s made a noticeable difference in how comfortable and motivated my child feels in lessons. Very grateful for everything they’ve done.

We can't recommend Kayleigh highly enough! Our daughter started tutoring sessions lacking confidence in Physics, and the transformation has been remarkable. Kayleigh has not only helped her understand the subject, but has genuinely inspired her — she now loves Physics and is excited to continue with it. Kayleigh has a wonderful ability to connect with her students and make a subject feel exciting and achievable. The results speak for themselves, but what's meant even more to us is seeing our daughter's enthusiasm and self-belief grow throughout the year. Thank you, Kayleigh — you've made a real difference!

Caledonian tutors have been amazing for us. Katie has brought my daughter from a place of low confidence and failing maths to smashing her tests. Katie is reliable, consistent, patient and clear throughout every lesson. Mary has been outstanding for my other daughter. She’s become not just an amazing tutor for my daughter to explore her interest in science with, but also a mentor and someone my daughter has built a real connection with. I feel hugely relieved that Caledonian tutors is there to support with any subjects my kids might struggle with or when they aren’t properly supported by their school in the future. I wouldn’t hesitate to use them.

I have used Caledonia Tutors for 3 subjects- Maths (Sarah Rose), English (Hollie) and History (Freya). All 3 tutors were exemplary in their approach: well organised, encouraging, focused and all established a good relationship with my daughter. Their contributions were invaluable in building my daughter's confidence and sharpening her approach. I highly recommend all 3 of these tutors.
