Melissa Wood Tutoring is run by Melissa, a primary school teacher with over 20 years' experience in education, who has been teaching since graduating in 2002 and now works solely as a tutor. Lessons are delivered from a fully resourced classroom at home for children aged 4-11, on a one-to-one or small group basis, covering the core subjects of English and Maths.
Support is available for Year 6 SATs preparation and entrance exams into independent schools. Term-time tutoring is offered as 1:1 lessons or small group classes, alongside a limited number of 1:1 tutoring spaces during school holidays. Melissa is DBS checked, with up-to-date safeguarding and first aid training.

Melissa was a wonderful tutor for my children. She was very kind, patient and encouraging, and really helped them to feel more confident in maths. They always felt comfortable with her, and i would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a friendly and caring maths tutor.
We started using Melissa for maths tutoring for my daughter in 2020 after the first lockdown. She came highly recommended from another parent. We were so happy with her that we ended up using her for both kids (with English tutoring for my son) until they moved on from primary. My daughter, who was struggling with confidence, literally skipped out of the initial meet up. I have 2 very different children - Melissa was great with both building their confidence with engaging, fun lessons tailored to their interests. She flagged up dyslexia in my son and her support has been such a relief for us as parents. The learning environment she provides is bright, homely and nurturing. My kids have many happy memories of their time with her (jammie dodgers, the chocolate challenge, learning games outside and Jessie the dog are just a few). Melissa is an amazing teacher and I literally cried when it was our time to move on. I wouldnt hesitate to recommend her to anyone.
Melissa is such an amazing tutor (I wish we had discovered her sooner for my daughter). She completely tailors learning to what the young person needs and finds ways to maximise engagement. The learning environment that Melissa has created is also fantastic ⭐️ . We can’t recommend Melissa enough.
I’d really recommend Melissa to anyone looking for a maths tutor. She has been absolutely incredible with Rudy. For the first time in a long time, he’s actually enjoying maths. He genuinely looks forward to his sessions each week, and that’s something I never thought I’d be able to say. Melissa has such a calm, patient way of teaching that really suits him, and she’s built his confidence so much already. She’s brilliant at adapting to how he learns, making things make sense without ever making him feel under pressure. The difference in both his attitude towards maths and his confidence has been amazing to see. I honestly can’t recommend Melissa highly enough. She’s been worth her weight in gold for our family.

Melissa is a fabulous tutor, with her fun and wholesome approach to teaching, she instilled confidence in my children’s maths making it understandable and easier for them. The children always loved their sweet treat awards! Book well in advance as Melissa is hugely popular and often booked out! I will highly recommend to anyone asking for a tutor.
