A while ago, I left LS Tuition a short review. It said: "Lydia and the team have been transformative for our children. They have really started to excel at school since attending, and generally more confident in their abilities." I meant every word. But reading it back now, it barely scratches the surface, so here's the fuller story. When we started, our goal wasn't a single outcome. It was to plug the widening gap left by the Scottish state system. Between half-day Fridays, in-service days, and holidays that creep into Mondays and Tuesdays, you start to wonder how much actual learning is happening. We needed something that worked alongside school, not as a replacement, but as genuine reinforcement. Private school was always a "what if" in the background, not the mission. Last week, that "what if" became a "yes": both girls were formally accepted into the independent school we'd been considering. I'll be honest. Before LS Tuition, I worried I was failing my eldest. She's bright; I always knew she had it in her. But focus at home is a different beast (tensions flare, kids behave differently with parents than with teachers). I felt stuck. Lydia and her team changed everything. My eldest has just been promoted again in her literacy group. The independent school's acceptance letter then highlighted precisely the qualities the team has been nurturing: a willingness to work hard, listen, and take advice. Those are the qualities that last. Sabrina, Nicole and Ashley have each shaped this in their own way, and Lydia's strategic eye and sheer care have been the engine behind all of it. When the girls got their acceptance, I spoke with Lydia and she was genuinely beaming. At one point she said something that's stuck with me: that this doesn't really feel like a job to her. You could hear it in her voice. That's not something you can fake, and it's not something you come across often. If you're a parent weighing up tuition, my honest advice: book a call with Lydia. The personalised attention, the strategic thinking, and the balance of academic rigour with character development is genuinely rare. Forever grateful. Five stars then, five stars now, and it still feels insufficient. 😊
We enrolled our 10-year-old daughter, Aiza, at Lydia’s Tuition Centre in Edinburgh in September with the goal of preparing her for her P7 assessment exam for Dollar Academy and what an incredible journey it has been. From the very beginning, Lydia and her team stood out as far more than just tutors. Lydia took the time to truly understand Aiza, tailoring her approach to build not only her academic ability but also her confidence. Over the months, we saw a remarkable transformation in her, she became more self-assured, motivated, and genuinely excited about learning. Lydia provided ample work in between classes honing in on the subjects Aiza would find difficult. As the exam approached, Lydia went above and beyond, increasing sessions and providing unwavering support every step of the way. She would write detailed emails between each class to keep me fully updated as to Aizas progress so I knew exactly what to work on in between sessions. She would give me great tips like doing mental maths exercises in the car and practising debate subjects with her to help Aiza prepare for the interview stages of the admissions process. Her dedication, care, and commitment to each student’s success is truly exceptional—it felt like we had a whole team personally invested in Aiza’s future. We are absolutely thrilled that Aiza gained admission to Dollar Academy at the end of January, and we know this achievement would not have been possible without Lydia’s guidance and encouragement. Lydia and her team are one of the only centres in Scotland that have a in depth understanding as to what private schools are looking for in their students and in Aizas case has been invaluable to help her gain admission. I cannot recommend Lydia’s Tuition Centre highly enough. If you’re looking for a place that nurtures both ability and confidence, and genuinely cares about your child’s success, this is it.
Lydia has been so transformative for my daughter - she spent a lot of time with us at the start to understand my daughter’s needs and where she may be struggling. Despite being with her for just a couple months - I see a total difference in not only my daughter’s abilities, but her love and excitement about learning. Lydia is supportive, kind, and fun as well as being hugely capable and competent in helping my daughter find her feet in literacy and maths. I can’t imagine our lives without Lydia and we’re so grateful!
We were delighted with our experience of LS Tuition who helped our daughter prepare for a P1 assessment at an Edinburgh school. She enjoyed all her lessons and the staff were kind, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Would highly recommend for any families wanting a bit of help preparing for private school entry assessment.
My son has been having weekly sessions with Sabrina at LS Tuition for several months now. We are delighted, not only with the progress he is making academically, but how happy he is in the setting and how much he looks forward to the sessions. Sessions are completely tailored to my son’s learning style, his interests and the level he’s working at. The style of the lessons really fosters a love of learning which is exactly what we were looking for.
We have discovered LS Tuition over the summer looking for additional tuition support for our son who had just finished P1. From the first point of contact to the actual lessons we could not fault Lydia & her team. They are professional, caring, engaging and fun. The tutors are first class and really know how to get a child interested and engaged in learning. After a year of struggling to get our son interested in literacy & numeracy taught at school, he was suddenly coming for his lessons at LS Tuition with great enthusiasm and willingness to learn. He absolutely adored his tutor Ashley who managed to keep him focused every single lesson from the beginning to the end. We have also experienced tutoring with Sabrina and Mhari-Anne and both were fantastic. The classroom is bright, the resources are plenty, the feedback is thorough and the kindness displayed by the entire team is second to none. I cannot recommend this team enough to any parent who is struggling in one way or the other to get their child up to speed with the primary school curriculum and want them to start enjoying the learning process.
