Kumon Maths & English

Founded in 1958 in Osaka, Japan, Kumon has grown into a worldwide organisation operating in more than 60 countries and regions. Its Swindon East centre, run by instructor Wakako Quixley, is Ofsted registered and offers the Kumon Maths and English study programmes.

Children can attend classes either at the study centre or online.

Park South in Swindon hosts this after-school programme and learning centre, where the accounts gathered focus on pupils gaining ground in both numeracy and literacy. One family describes a son who joined with weak marks and scant belief in his maths ability and who has since risen to the top of his class, often surpassing pupils from the year above. Another parent reports that a daughter in year one made considerable strides in maths and English after enrolling.

An often-mentioned strength is the dedication of Mrs Quixley and her colleagues, whom families consistently characterise as supportive and caring. The tracking of each child's development comes up repeatedly, with records kept of progress as it happens. The Kumon method itself attracts warm approval for the structure it brings to daily practice. Taken as an education centre and mathematics school, the provision leans on regular written work and steady reinforcement. What families value most is the confidence children build alongside improved attainment, and the named staff remain central to that experience.
