Bristol Science Tutor

Dr Zara Wood holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and a PGCHE from the University of Kent. She has worked as a tutor for ten years, and has taught at the University of Bristol and the University of Kent. She is an examiner for a major exam board at A level and has experience marking A-level papers. She teaches Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, offering both online and face-to-face tutoring. Lessons are tailored to the individual student's goals, learning style and exam board, and combine clear explanations with targeted exam practice and exam technique.

She offers individually tailored one-to-one lessons in Biology and Chemistry, a fast track Chemistry & Biology A level one-year intensive course for independent and mature students, online tutoring in Biology & Chemistry for GCSE and A-level, online tutoring in Biology & Biochemistry for University students, and help with proofreading and guidance for project/dissertation writing. She encourages students to undertake mock examinations which are assessed by the tutor.

Chemistry and biology from GCSE through to A-level are the focus of this Redland-based tutor, Zara, who appears as the sole point of contact across every review on file. Several accounts describe pupils rescuing a struggling AS or A2 grade within a matter of weeks, crediting clear explanations that moved carefully from basic principles up to more advanced material rather than assuming prior understanding.

An adult learner returning to study after several years away describes an intensive nine-month course covering two A-level sciences while also applying to study medicine, with exam technique highlighted as a particular focus alongside content knowledge. Organisation and preparation are mentioned consistently, with reviewers describing lessons as always relevant to what a pupil specifically needed rather than following a generic syllabus in order.

Confidence is raised in several reviews alongside grades, with pupils who had lost faith in their ability in a subject described as regaining it steadily over a course of sessions. University entry, including onto a medicine course, is mentioned as an outcome in more than one account, with tutoring described as playing a significant part in achieving the grades required. The tutor operates from a base on Whiteladies Road, with sessions available across the school and university application calendar rather than only in the exam season itself.
