Lantern Tutors is a Belfast-based tutoring team whose reviewers repeatedly name Julian for maths and physics, Davina for biology, Amanda for chemistry and Kirsty for English and Media Studies, working with pupils through small-group and one-to-one sessions, including online A-level Media lessons via Zoom. Parents and students consistently describe patient, encouraging teaching that rebuilds confidence in pupils who had lost enthusiasm for a subject, alongside clear exam technique and structured lessons with homework reviewed each week. Reviewers report strong outcomes, including students moving up multiple grades from mock results and several describing grade 9s or top A-level grades, though most note tutoring was one part of a wider effort. Long-running relationships are common, with several families returning across GCSE and A-level years. As a tutoring service in Belfast, Lantern Tutors holds a 5-star average from 57 Google reviews.

One of my twins was a part of a group session, and one of my twins had one to one support (due to needing a bit more support due to dyslexia). Both received exceptional support. I also very much appreciated Kirsty's expertise in the strategy for English Lang/ Lit exam taking. As an ex-pat, the world of GCSEs is very different from my own experiences, and I would never have been able to support my sons, especially my son with needs, in how he should approach each question, how he should take his breaks, etc. I looked at several tutors before engaging Kirsty, and though her tutoring sessions were more per hour than other tutors, I really believe you get what you pay for. Kirsty's fee reflects her exceptional knowledge, the quality of her teaching, and the amount of work she puts in to support your child to thrive.
Julian has been a fantastic help to our daughter studying for a masters degree in product design but needing catch-up help with general aspects of mathematics, physics and materials science. Tutoring from Julian doubtlessly helped get her through these modules. Thoroughly capable, professional and a jolly nice fellow too. Highly recommended.
Kirsty went above and beyond to accommodate my daughter, agreeing to provide A Level Media tuition via Zoom. At the time, my daughter had recently lost confidence in what had always been her strongest and favourite subject. She was feeling anxious about her forthcoming A Level exams, and to add to the challenge, her school teacher was unfortunately absent due to medical reasons. Kirsty completely turned things around. Isabella regained both her confidence and her passion for Media Studies, and she is now in the midst of her A Level exams feeling quietly confident in the subject once again. Thank you, Kirsty, from all of us—especially Isabella. She thoroughly enjoyed her sessions with you and found you to be fantastic, reliable, engaging, friendly, and an absolute pleasure to work with. Isabella would highly recommend you as a Media tutor, and I would wholeheartedly agree. Have a wonderful summer, and please do keep in touch. With love and gratitude, Justine & Isabella x
Kirsty was terrific with our son with his English coursework and revision during his GCSE year. She was patient, understanding and worked hard to make sure he understood what was required of him and how to meet those requirements. Kirsty went above and beyond to ensure he had every chance to get great results in his Englsh course work and GCSEs!
I cannot recommend Kirsty enough as a tutor! Her invaluable and unique advice, guidance and deep insight into the English exam board is unlike any other teacher I’ve had before. She has guided me by pushing my essays to the top bands of the mark scheme, resulting in me earning 9s in both GCSE English Lit and Language. She not only reads our assigned texts but creates helpful resources like trackers and anagrams for revision. I cannot thank her enough, any student would be lucky to have Kirsty as a tutor!
I highly recommend Julian as a tutor. At a key point in Year 10, when my son's confidence in maths was beginning to wane, he began tutoring sessions with Julian. Through his expert teaching, encouragement and support, Julian helped rebuild my son's confidence and rekindle his enthusiasm for the subject. My son not only enjoyed the sessions but also found them incredibly beneficial, which led me to enrol him in Julian’s physics class as well. My son went on to achieve a Grade 9 in maths and a 7 in physics at GCSE. We’ve since returned for A-levels, continuing tuition with Julian in both subjects, confident that his support will be invaluable over the next two years.
We have experience of Julian tutoring both Physics and, more recently, Maths. He is straightforward, encouraging and gets results. Through small group tutoring for Physics, my son went up two grades, to an unexpected Grade 7. We have returned for help with Maths A Level and my son is very happy. My advice would be to get into a small group before it fills up, with Julian (and any of the lantern tutors in other subjects) and start sooner rather than later to get thorough and expert support and build confidence from the outset. I wish we had found them sooner!
