About the company

Kip McGrath Sheffield South West is a tuition centre managed by Claire Slater, an experienced, qualified teacher and former GCSE Maths examiner. All tutors at the centre are qualified teachers and are DBS checked. The centre is Ofsted registered. It offers tutoring for children aged 6 to 16, specialising in English, maths, science and 11+ exam preparation. Services include English and maths tutoring for primary and secondary students, ADHD support, dyslexia support, an early years programme, entrance exam preparation, GCSE preparation, 11 Plus preparation, SATs preparation, and science tutoring.

Each 60 minute session includes one-on-one attention with a tutor and combines written and computer-based activities in a small group learning environment. Small learning groups have no more than five students per session. Following an initial assessment, an individual learning programme is created. Kip McGrath was founded in 1976 by qualified teachers Kip and Dugnea McGrath. Kip McGrath has over 500 centres worldwide, over 45 years of proven methodology, and over 260 locations across the UK, Ireland and the Isle of Man.

What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Sheffield families describe a tutoring service that has supported children across primary, secondary and GCSE stages, with English and mathematics tuition recurring most frequently in accounts. Several customers mention the centre's work with a child who is dyslexic, noting progress made in a short period towards a mathematics GCSE grade. Confidence building appears as a consistent theme, with parents reporting that children no longer feel behind in mathematics and have moved up sets at school. Claire is named repeatedly, described as patient yet firm, and other teachers such as Abbey are credited with helping pupils in their learning.

Reviewers mention tailored learning materials matched to a child's needs, and the availability of both in-centre and online sessions with teacher support. A parent of an eight-year-old speaks of the boost to confidence from lessons, while longer-standing families describe years of continuous English tuition. Communication with parents comes across as supportive, and the atmosphere friendly enough that children say they enjoy attending. Science at triple higher level is also mentioned alongside the core subjects, with one pupil noting improvements in grades across all three.

I have tutoring for English and Maths. They have always been friendly and have increased my grades in both. I’ve had 3 private tutored that come to my house before Kip but none match up to them. Would fully suggest to anyone from primary to GCSE.

Kip McGrath were fantastic with our daughter. She is dyslexic and battled to pass maths GCSE. Thanks to Clair and her team she managed, in an amazingly short space of time to take her from a 3 to a 4, and only 5 marks short of a grade 5 ! fantastic.
