About the company

Excel Tutors is a tuition centre founded in 2010, initially serving three learners and now having over 800 registered students and more than 70 subject specialists. It is Ofsted-registered and a JCQ-approved private exam centre with centre number 10488, operating five branches in East London. The centre offers tuition for primary (Years 3–6), KS3 (Years 7–9), GCSE, A-Level, adult learners, and university entrance, covering maths, English, science, and computer science.

Additional services include 11+ preparation for GL Assessment and CSSE (Essex) formats, SATs preparation for KS2 (Year 6), and university entrance preparation for UCAT, MAT, STEP, and PAT. As a private exam centre, it provides services for GCSE, IGCSE, and A-Level exams, with exam entries for Edexcel, AQA, OCR, WJEC/Eduqas, and Cambridge (CAIE) boards, as well as functional skills exams, AAT exams, practical endorsement (CPAC), and invigilation services.

It also offers after-school childcare and an Excel Coding Club. Tuition is available in-centre and online, with online tuition offered UK-wide. Classes are capped at four students, and tutors are qualified teachers, practising examiners, and DBS-checked. A free personalised assessment is provided for every new student, and the centre uses weekly tests and at least five mocks, along with termly parents' meetings. An on-site science lab is located at Whitechapel.

What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Exam preparation and tuition for GCSEs and A-levels stand out as the themes that students and parents return to most, with resits and booster sessions named especially often. Reviewers describe teaching that is patient and thorough, noting that tutors take the time to unpack difficult topics in psychology and English Language rather than hurrying on, and that guidance on structuring essays and answering exam questions is given in practical detail. The responsiveness of communication, from registration through the academic year, is a recurring positive, as is the care shown to children.

Value comes up repeatedly too, with resit and mock exam arrangements described as reasonably priced for the capital, and the exam centre itself is praised for running in a professional and well organised manner, including quiet conditions for mock sittings. Parents speak warmly of the support their children receive, while one former student credits the tuition with a marked improvement in school mock grades. Help with A-level resits, English Language boosters and psychology tuition is singled out as particularly useful, alongside the training tutors receive to keep their teaching effective.

Very nice resit experience, would’ve been helpful if they gave a sitting table for resits

Unprofessional behaviour from staff, one in particular called Anis. Other tutors are good and well trained, but only if you're lucky! They not only want to control your money but your childrens timetables, well, that money hungry man. No professionalism, compromise and clear cut favouritism amongst different families. Younger sister needs to cut a subject due to clash with school timetables but would like to keep the subject she needs most help with, along with this she is currently having some health issues yet there is no compromise. This guy ‘Anis’ says either you stay completely for both subjects or leave, we understand that this is a business yet, where is the care? This man loveeeees his money. Receptionists say one thing and Anis says another, no key t&c’s explained when we started and now they suddenly want to mention it all. Again, if a student is struggling to balance things, aren’t you meant to help find a middle ground? Her GCSE’s are just around the corner and Anis has stressed us out and we will most likely need to find a new tuition one month before her GCSE’s, this truly is disgusting from him. Also had a situation with him in the past where he refused to speak to me on the phone as my younger sister had been forced into detention for 5 minutes of lateness even though she had left on time. I had asked them to let her off especially as the new road area is unsafe (hence why I'll be picking her up soon as it's dark short days) and as there have been multiple cases of assault on new road in the past & problems l've also endured in that area, more of a reason to let young girls go on time as it's already dark especially if it’s only 5 or so minutes lateness! But instead Anis refused to speak on the phone. My sister kept asking him as I was on the call to take the phone to talk to me, but Anis was nodding his head no. Who are they hiring? Children? I've never had to deal with grown adults who are too scared to answer the phone. Disgusting behaviour, I pray for the childrens safety because clearly these people do not. Some of the tutors are great but they need to get rid of some, they're letting this place down heavily. -Students sister who no, you won’t find on the system so report all you like, this is all simply the truth. Parents, I urge you to find another tuition centre which prioritises your kids education and health over money, jzk.

Really good tuition centre, improved my grades quite a bit. I went from 7s and 8s to grade 9s in school mocks. Great tutors and teaching methods.
